D2 how does cold mastery work

Resist penetration stacks, including breaking sources. This was a bug in the Original. Kind of like ethereal item socketing.

That makes sense. Each monster type their own resistance and it can be modified higher if they are in a rare pack. Yeah, it all depends on the monsters individual cold resistance. Has anyone tried meteorb build in hell yet? Keep it! And do it for Lightning and Fire Mastery as well.

Honestly, more viable specs the better. You can simply look at old reddit or forum posts from before D2R for how to deal with cold immunity, and one common theme are people mentioning that you can break immunity.

Usualy they mention getting a wand that has charges of the necromancers skill "Lower Resist", as it will help you break the immunity easier. Either way, its very ineffective and i would only bother doing it for quest bossess such as Radament if you are stuck in quest progression. And even then you will do better damage by just getting a staff with lvl 1 meteor in it.

If that is an intended change, it might change the meta quite a bit. Cold Sorc's biggest issue was that Cold Immunes were basically impossible to get rid of due to their resistance levels being so high that Infinity and most sources of Lower Resist couldn't punch through it.

I wonder if other sources of resistance pierce work the same now? Ngl, this change alone would make me willing to buy the game, but I'll stay faithful to my rules. The immunity on cold immunes is too high. Even when you break it, your damage is so low you have to skip the mobs anyways.

Did some quick tests. Confirmed, with some caveats: It doesn't change much. Not reailable for killing in hell. And many, many monsters have cold resist so high even a levle 40 cold mastery won't break it.

It appears ALL sources of lowering enemy resists can pierce. Adding infinity and a few facets and was still underwhelmed, testing on single player.

TL;DR My cold sorc in hell still runs screaming from cold immunes. I don't think anything will change for Light Sorcs and Javazons using Infinity. Yeah, I considered that. Is that tested or are you guessing? I'll see if I can do some testing later today. Ah thanks, didn't see this. It is what it. You need multiple characters to farm everywhere in D2.

Infinity is applied after breaking, so IF your CM can break, infinity helps it bunch through. Is this change intended or is is just a bug that will be fixed?

They were wrong. It used to break immunities until it was intentionally changed in patch 1. After looking at patch notes, this is correct Link to 1. Remind me what WSG is again? Edit: Weapon Swap Glitch. I figured it out with ye olde Google. Once mastery over this powerful elemental force is attained, a Sorceress achieves perfect command over this school of magic.

Her freezing spells are now of such potency that those adversaries formerly impervious to their effects soon find themselves the surprised victims of a vicious, chilly assault. Cold Mastery reduces the resistances of hostile monsters and players. Cold Mastery only applies to the Sorceress; that is, when fighting on a team, only Cold Spells cast by the Sorceress with the skill receive its benefits.

It works on other Players in PvP, even if their resistances are maxed out. However, Cold Mastery does not affect monsters that are Cold Immune. Enemies that are not Cold Immune can have their Cold Resistances lowered below zero, making a Sorceress' Cold Spells especially effective, but the only ways to break resistances are the Necromancer 's Lower Resist and the Paladin 's Conviction aura. A passive skill, Cold Mastery is the Cold-based Sorceress ' final step in conquering the element of frigidity.

With each point invested, this skill subtracts from the Cold Resistance of your enemies. It cannot, however, ever break Cold Immunity, which is a major downside. Although it's a great idea to put one or two skill points in to Cold Mastery, you should probably wait to do so until most of your other synergies are maxed out for your main skills. Since it cannot break full immunity, investing a ton of points in this skill may not be advisable. Once mastery over this powerful elemental force is attained, a Sorceress achieves perfect command over this school of magic.
