Does anyone buy 78 records

The unfortunate truth is, the majority of 78s are not worth very much. Regardless of age I see record stores and people alike throwing them out all the time because they just can't give them away sometimes.

This is true of those sets, which while they look gorgeous, with a very few rare exceptions, usually can't be given away let alone sold. What you have going for you is that many of the records are individually sleeved and are in NM condition, they were obviously cared for.

They were probably played with new needles each time. If you have choice titles, there's no reason to believe that with that quantity you should be able to get some money, but if they aren't particularly rare or valuable titles, I wouldn't expect any significant sum. This is all just my experience of hunting for 78s for the past 10 or so years in the NY area. Maybe geographically there is a greater demand elsewhere, but it's pretty close to non-existent here.

Which makes me a sad panda, because I do love the format, the classic music, etc. You'd think that having cheap 78 players in every college dorm these days, there'd be a bit more demand in people trying to pick them up, but nah, this isn't the case for whatever reason. I trust that the community wouldn't take advantage of one of their own, or so to speak, and I know there are a number of people here who love collecting 78s of all eras.

MrRom92 , Nov 8, The problem is, some 78's are wonderful, some suck. Some are worth a lot of money, some are worth a buck. Only someone who is an expert can tell you that. Or, you could put each record on eBay, sit back and wait for the big bids to come in and find out that way, might take 10 years. I love old 78's but only the good ones. The bad ones are good for skeet shooting. You could type out a list, grade each one accurately and ask here if you wish.

Like I said, condition is everything. Or, you could photograph each label and post that. One play with a bad steel needle in could make a good looking but bad sounding record be misgraded. You need to grade aurally by listening as well as visually.

Only that way can you come to an accurate grade for each side. A lot of work but if you don't grade correctly and sell to a collector, he will be quite unhappy.
