What kind of frogs can live together

Poisonous frogs tend to be brightened than the non-poisonous species. Many assorted species of birds, snakes, other frogs, and small mammals eat gray treefrogs. These frogs are arboreal to avoid predators, and exploit new food resources. They also avoid the attention of predators by calling after dusk and being most active in the evening and night. Remember that green tree frogs are TREE frogs, they are arboreal, and so a tank that supplies more height than width is always a better choice, such as a 20 High.

These tree frogs are wonderfully curious and have individual personalities and antics. They do this not only to attract mates, but to advertise their location, usually after some rain, for reasons that are still unknown to researchers. Your tree frog does not need love and affection.

These are observational animals and thus do not like to be held. A toad definitely is not the same as a dog or cat in this regard but some do show affection based on both their natural disposition and experience with humans. Yet another thing to factor is stress; most frogs become stressed while being held.

This female tree frog lays her eggs on the dark underside of leaves overhanging a pool of water. Like the American Green Tree they have significant ecological benefits and help rid environments of insect pests. This frog should only be purchased from breeders as this helps protect populations.

Like many of the frogs in this list they do best in a 10 or gallon tank with lots of height for climbing. However, this toad does not have any green on their body. They are also from a different part of the world than the Fire Belly. They are native to Argentina and Paraguay not Asia. These toads are one of the smallest pet frogs and will not grow larger than 1. They do not take up much room and can live in a 5-gallon tank. You can house four of them in a gallon tank!

They are easy to keep in captivity and will live for more than 10 years if they are well taken care of. American Toads are widespread throughout North America. They spend most of their time near ponds and in wet forests. This toad is easily identified by their short legs and thick brown skin with bumpy warts. When stressed their skin color often changes from brown to green to yellow. They are not as colorful as some reptiles but they still make great pets. You should avoid handling them frequently as it can be dangerous for both of you.

These toads carry a substance called bufotoxin that can irritate your eyes. Additionally oils on your hands can damage their skin. These little frogs are usually a green and black color.

It is their bright colors that warn predators of their poison glands. Their name can sometimes keep beginners from adopting them. But surprisingly they make a great beginner frog. These frogs are small, entertaining and energetic. They are normally searching for food and hopping around — one of their favorite foods is ants. These frogs are native to southern Africa and live in grassland ponds and streams. They will only leave water if they are forced to migrate.

African Dwarf Frogs are the best pet frog for someone who wants to keep fish and frogs! They live well in a 5-gallon aquarium with lots of water and are great swimmers.

They will only swim to the surface to breathe. Bumblebee Dart Frogs are found throughout South America. They are insectivores and eat small fruit flies and pinhead crickets.

This setup has required the least maintenance for me given the buildup of mixed species poop. I plan to add a couple more frogs soon. Good luck :-D. June 10th, 5. Could be a noob question but arent whites, dumpy, and Australian whites all the same just different color morphs? I thought u heard that either way I think it's reckless to mix species and def if there is a size difference just bc it's done at a pets store doesn't mean it's right most those animals are moved fairly quick so they don't have time to die due to the toxins made by their tank mates.

June 11th, 6. The White's will get bigger then the Big Eyes and will more then likely eat them as they will be much smaller then them when fully grown. June 11th, 7. Re: house tree frogs together new it!

June 11th, 8. Im just sharing that this setup is successful for my diff species in case you wanted to know or were asking.

I wasent asking if i should remove my own frogs tho lmao! So Please dont yell at the frog whisperer. June 11th, 9. Re: house tree frogs together I don't care if you were asking or not. If you give an ounce of care about your frog's well being I would remove the 2 Big Eye Tree Frogs from your White's Tree Frogs before something has a chance to happen.

Just because you have kept these two species together, for now I don't know how long you've had them together , does not make it a success or remotely okay. I'm also reiterating for anyone else who may search and find this thread that it is NOT okay to be housing these two species together. And back to the OP's question again NO it is NOT okay to mix species of tree frogs! If you had to absolutely mix species, for whatever reason June 11th, Re: house tree frogs together.

As a rule of thumb, and you will find on every frog specific forum on the web, mixing species is never recommended. Main reason is that the transfer of what secrets from the skin of each species is different with every species. Since frogs absorb what they drink and everything that touches their skin, even the trace left behind when a frog travels the tank is eventually a portability of a contaminant to the other tank mates.

In fact, substances extracted from their skin have medical uses in fighting bacteria, lowering blood pressure, and treating cold sores.

As with all amphibians, their skin is soft and permeable so wash your hands thoroughly and avoid any lotions, creams, or oils before handling them. They generally only make noise at night due to them being nocturnal, however, some will make noise if they hear the vacuum cleaner, hairdryer or the TV for example.

They need constant access to fresh, clean water — a large water bowl is a must! Use an easy to clean dish, such as an Exo Terra Water Dish, as the frog will be using the dish as a latrine and you will need to clean daily. A tall or high 15 to 20 gallon aquarium is recommended for housing one adult frog. A hexagonal tank is optimal. Safety Tip: This species of frog produces a toxic skin secretion that can cause extreme discomfort to the eyes, lips, mucus lining of the nose, or open cuts and abrasions.

Careful hand washing is advised for anyone after handling gray treefrogs. Carnivorous — live food. Dumpy tree frogs eat live protein sources such as: gut-loaded crickets, earthworms and wax worms. Wild caught insects should never be fed, since they can carry disease.

If necessary, use a heat bulb or a night-specific heat lamp for warmth. It depends on how old the frog is.
